Type Locality and Naming

Kong Cunli was named in 1988. The named section is located in Yuanxi, Huanghe Township, Shangrao County, Jiangxi Province.

Synonym: This set of strata was previously referred to as Daye Formation or Daye Group (Compilation Group of Jiangxi Regional Stratigraphic Table, 1980 ;Jiangxi Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, 1982).


Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of yellowish-brown, pink, grey, grey-green mudstone, siltstone and fine sandstone. Its thickness ranges from 152 to 730 m.

Lower contact

It is in conformable contact with the underlying Tieshikou Fm

Overlain conformably by the Yangjia Gr

Regional extent

The Yuanxi Formation represents the Early Triassic Olenekian clastic deposits in northeastern Jiangxi. Coeval with Xiangcheng Fm in same general region.
